Most of what you will read online says oven-safe glass is fine in an air fryer. That is not what every maker says, and the ones who disagree are worth hearing. This page sets out what Pyrex, Cuisinart and Lékué actually print, then what to do with the dish already in your cupboard.
What the makers say about glass in an air fryer
An air fryer is a small oven with a very strong fan. Glass that is happy in a roomy oven sits much closer to the heat here, so makers are careful, and they do not all agree.
| Maker | What they say | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Pyrex, United States | Its safety page says glassware and ceramicware should not be used with countertop appliances such as an air fryer. It also rules out toaster ovens, stovetops, broilers and grills, and asks you to fully preheat a regular oven first. | Pyrex safety and usage page |
| Pyrex, Europe | Sells borosilicate glass dishes made for air fryers, in sizes matched to the basket. | Pyrex Europe air fryer guide |
| Cuisinart, air fryer toaster ovens | The booklets treat metal and glass as the normal container materials and call for extreme care with anything else. Do not rest a baking dish on the glass door. | Cuisinart booklet |
| Ninja | We found no statement about putting your own dish in the basket. Ninja’s glass air fryer is built around its own glass containers. Check your manual. | Ninja support FAQ |
| Lékué | Sells borosilicate dishes with silicone handles for air fryers, ovens and microwaves, and tells you to wear oven gloves. | Lékué product description |
So the safe reading is simple. If your dish came with a statement that it is made for air fryers, you have your answer. If it is ordinary oven glass from a maker that does not mention air fryers, you are going beyond what that maker promises. Several food sites say oven-safe glass is fine. That is the site’s view, not the maker’s promise.
Which glass is out, and which is your call
| What you have | Verdict | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A dish made and sold for air fryers | Yes | Its maker says so. |
| Oven-safe borosilicate or tempered bakeware from a maker that does not mention air fryers | Your call | You are going beyond the maker’s word. Pyrex US says no. |
| Metal pan marked oven-safe | Yes, if it fits | Cuisinart’s booklet treats metal and glass as the normal containers. |
| Drinking glasses, jars, bowls with no oven mark | No | Not made for oven heat. |
| Microwave-only containers | No | Microwave-safe says nothing about hot air. |
| Chipped, cracked or badly scratched glass | No | Pyrex’s label says never to use it. |
| Plastic lids | No | Pyrex keeps plastic lids out of ovens. |
To tell what you have, turn the dish over and look for an oven-safe mark on the base, or check the box. No mark, treat it as not oven-safe.

Do you want glass inside the machine itself rather than in the basket? A few air fryers cook in a glass container, and we compared the ones worth buying here.
Can you put Pyrex in an air fryer?
In the US, Pyrex says no. Its safety page lists air fryers with the other countertop appliances its glassware and ceramicware should stay out of. In Europe the picture is different. The Pyrex name is licensed to different companies in different regions, and the European one sells borosilicate dishes made for air fryers. Same name, different instructions. Check where your dish was made and what came with it. The oven rules are in our Pyrex oven guide.
How to use a glass bowl or dish in an air fryer
If your dish is one its maker allows, or you decide to use oven glass anyway, these habits cut the risk.
- Pick a dish that fits with a gap all round. A dish that fills the basket blocks the air and can touch the heat.
- Take the lid off. Plastic lids do not belong in hot air, and Pyrex keeps them out of ovens.
- Let a cold dish warm up. Do not move glass from the fridge or freezer straight into a hot basket.
- Add a little liquid when the food will release juice. Pyrex’s own label suggests it.
- Lift it out with oven gloves and set it on a dry board or trivet, never on wet or cold stone.
- Check for chips before every use. Hold the dish up to the window.

For crisp food like fries or wings, use the basket. A dish is for saucy, soft or small-batch food.
If you need a dish that is sold for the job, these are the two we would look at first.

Why glass cracks in an air fryer
Glass breaks when one part of it is much hotter or colder than the next. That is thermal shock, and it is what Pyrex’s own label warns about. Three things set it off:
- Cold glass going into a hot basket.
- Hot glass going onto a wet or cold surface.
- A chip or scratch, which is where the glass gives way first.
The heat and fan sit close to the dish in an air fryer, so a weak spot has less time to hide.

Glass storage containers and their lids
The glass part of a storage container can go in only if its maker rates it for the oven. The snap-on lid never can: plastic lids are for the microwave, fridge and freezer. Take the lid off and check the base for an oven mark. We compare glass and plastic storage separately.
Can you put ceramic in an air fryer?
Oven-safe ceramic and stoneware follow the same rules as glass: it has to fit, the lid comes off, nothing goes in cold, and the maker’s word comes first. Pyrex US puts ceramicware on its no list for countertop appliances. Skip pieces with metallic trim and anything not marked oven-safe. If you meant air fryers with a ceramic-coated basket, that is a different question, and we answer it here.
Glass dishes made for air fryers, side by side
These are dishes whose maker sells them for air fryers. Lékué also makes larger round and square dishes, so measure your basket before you pick a size.
| Dish | Size | Best for | Watch out for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lékué air fryer glass dishes, set of 2 | Two rectangular dishes, about 0.5 L each | Two foods at once, sides, lunches | Small. Listed for baskets of about 5 L and up. | Check on Amazon |
| Lékué mini glass cups, set of 4 | Four round cups, about 0.25 L each | Baked eggs, custards, single portions | Tiny. Nothing for a family meal. | Check on Amazon |
Questions people ask
Can you put a plate in an air fryer?
Only an oven-safe glass or ceramic plate that fits with space all round, and only if its maker allows it. Paper plates are not made for hot, moving air, so leave them out.
Can ramekins go in an air fryer?
Oven-safe ceramic ramekins often do if they fit, but follow the maker’s instructions for yours. We list each maker’s oven limit in our ramekin guide.
Can you put CorningWare in an air fryer?
Check the leaflet that came with it. Corelle Brands, which makes CorningWare, says stoneware can break near extreme heat, and it tells Instant Pot owners not to use the air fryer function with it. We did not find a plain yes for a basket air fryer.
Can you put foil over a glass dish in an air fryer?
Foil has its own rules, and the makers do not all agree. Our guide to foil in an air fryer covers what five makers say.
How long can glass stay in an air fryer?
None of the maker pages we read gives a time limit. What matters is sudden temperature change and fit, not the minutes.
Can glass go from the freezer into an air fryer?
Pyrex’s label tells you to avoid sudden temperature changes, so let the dish warm toward room temperature first. Skip this only if your dish’s maker says it can go straight from the freezer.
What should never go in an air fryer?
Plastic and plastic lids, drinking glasses, jars, microwave-only containers, and anything chipped or not marked oven-safe.
How we checked
We read Pyrex’s US safety page and its European air fryer guide, Cuisinart’s air fryer toaster oven booklets, Ninja’s support pages, Corelle Brands’ CorningWare instructions and Lékué product text as it appears on Amazon and retailer pages. We did not test glass in an air fryer ourselves, and we found no Ninja or Instant Pot statement about your own dishes. Makers change their instructions, so check yours. Last reviewed 27 October 2026.
