The short answer

For most kitchens, the best Bundt pan is a cast aluminum pan in the 10 to 12 cup range, and the 12-cup is the common size. Nordic Ware, the company that trademarked the name, says all of its Bundt pans are cast aluminum with a silicone-based nonstick made without PFAS. If you want no coating at all, look at cast iron or glass. Our pick is the Nordic Ware Original 12-cup.

Nordic Ware Original Bundt pan in silver cast aluminum with classic fluted sides

Our quick pick

Nordic Ware Original Bundt Pan, 12-Cup

The classic fluted shape in cast aluminum, 10.5 inches (27 cm) across, 12 cups to the rim. Nordic Ware's listing says its cast aluminum gives the most crisp, intricate cake detail, and that the pan is made in America of domestic and imported materials.

See the Original 12-cup on Amazon

The drawback: hand wash only, and the listing caps it at 400°F (204°C).

The Bundt pan comes out of the cupboard for the holidays, and a cake stuck in the ridges is the worst way to start. Below are eight pans: three with a coating the maker names, two whose makers don't, two with no coating at all, and one for mini cakes. Each has one real drawback, and the care and heat limits come from the maker or the Amazon listing.

How we picked: we don't run a test kitchen and we haven't baked in these pans. We read the maker pages where we could find them (Nordic Ware, Wilton, USA Pan and Lodge) and, for Novery and SIMAX, relied on the Amazon and retailer listings. We checked every Amazon listing on November 1, 2026, and read America's Test Kitchen's published Bundt pan review. Its winner, the Nordic Ware Anniversary, is on our list.

Nonstick, uncoated or cast aluminum: what is on a Bundt pan?

Most Bundt pans on Amazon are metal with a nonstick coating. The metal affects how the cake bakes and how sharp the ridges come out. The coating affects how it releases and how long the pan lasts. Uncoated Bundt pans exist, but the ones we found are cast iron or glass.

Cast aluminum vs formed aluminum vs steel

Nordic Ware says all of its Bundt pans are cast aluminum and that this gives even heat distribution. Its Amazon listings add that molten aluminum is forced into a mold, which is how the pattern gets its detail. Nordic Ware also sells formed aluminum pans, such as the ProForm, which its listing calls lightweight. The Wilton and the Novery are steel, with the nonstick layer doing the work at release time.

What each maker says about its coating

Here is what each maker or seller says, in their own terms. We are not ruling on safety. We are showing who names their coating and who doesn't.

Pan What the maker or seller says California disclosure
Nordic Ware cast Bundts (Original, Anniversary) Silicone-based nonstick, made without PFAS (Nordic Ware Bundt FAQ). The Amazon listings say "made without PFAS and PTFE." Anniversary: aluminum. Original: none listed. PFAS appears nowhere on the list.
Nordic Ware mini (formed aluminum) Amazon listing: nonstick interior. The coating is not named. None listed.
USA Pan Americoat, a silicone nonstick (USA Pan). The Amazon listing says it is clear and made without PTFE, PFOA and BPA. Not checked for this page.
Wilton Gold Made without PFAS. Wilton doesn't say what the coating is. Wilton's page lists its nonstick metal bakeware as steel (iron, manganese) and names no coating.
Novery The listing says nonstick and scratch resistant. It gives no coating type and no PFAS statement. Not checked for this page.
Lodge cast iron Per Lodge: made with just iron and oil, no synthetic coating. Lists iron, phosphorus, manganese compounds and strontium. Soybean-oil seasoning appears as a non-candidate chemical.
SIMAX glass Retailer listings: borosilicate glass, no coating. Not checked for this page.

Nordic Ware and USA Pan both say their coating is silicone-based. Wilton says its pan is made without PFAS but doesn't say what the coating is, and the Novery listing says neither. If the coating matters to you, choose a maker that names it. For a wider look at coated and uncoated bakeware, see our non-toxic bakeware guide.

Even nonstick Bundt pans need grease

Nordic Ware's own instructions tell you to prepare its nonstick Bundts with a baking spray that contains flour, or with a layer of solid shortening or soft butter dusted with flour. For chocolate cakes it suggests cocoa instead of flour. It advises against regular cooking spray, which it says leaves a sticky residue.

Our quick pick: cast aluminum, 12 cups

Nordic Ware Original Bundt Pan, 12-Cup

Good for: anyone who bakes Bundts a few times a year and wants a pan for life.

Why it is here: it is the classic fluted Bundt in cast aluminum, 12 cups to the rim, and Nordic Ware names its coating. Check your recipe's batter volume against the pan's bakeable capacity (see the sizes section).

The drawback: hand wash only (Nordic Ware says dishwasher detergent can damage the coating), no metal tools, and the listing caps it at 400°F (204°C).

Wilton gold nonstick fluted tube pan with extended handles

Budget pick

Wilton Gold Non-Stick Fluted Tube Pan

Good for: an occasional pound cake on a small budget.

Why it is here: Wilton says it is made without PFAS, it has extended handles, and it is one of the most bought fluted pans on Amazon.

The drawback: Wilton doesn't name the coating, and the Amazon listing contradicts itself on the metal (steel in the specs, aluminum in one bullet). Wilton's own page says steel.

Novery black nonstick carbon steel fluted tube cake pan

Amazon's top seller

Novery 9.5-Inch Nonstick Fluted Tube Pan

Good for: small households and half-batch recipes.

Why it is here: when we checked, it was the number one seller in Amazon's Bundt pan category.

The drawback: the listing says nothing about what the nonstick coating is or whether it contains PFAS, and at a listed 6 cups it is much smaller than a standard Bundt.

See the Novery pan on Amazon
USA Pan aluminized steel fluted tube cake pan with a clear silicone coating

Named silicone coating

USA Pan Fluted Tube Cake Pan, 10-Inch

Good for: bakers who want a steel pan from a maker that spells out its coating.

Why it is here: USA Pan names its coating, Americoat, as a silicone nonstick. The Amazon listing for this 10-inch pan describes it as clear, made without PTFE, PFOA and BPA, on heavy gauge aluminized steel.

The drawback: USA Pan says to wash it by hand and keep sharp metal tools away from it, and it caps the oven at 450°F (230°C).

Bundt pan sizes: 6, 10, 12 or 15 cups, and will a box of cake mix fit?

The cup number on a Bundt pan is its capacity filled with water to the rim. King Arthur Baking measured the batter side: a 10-cup pan takes about 6 cups of batter, and a 12-cup pan about 7 1/4 cups, once you leave at least 1 1/4 inches below the rim.

Nordic Ware's customer team says most box mixes and recipes are written for a 10-cup finished capacity unless stated. Those are two different measures, so before you bake, compare the recipe's batter volume with the pan's bakeable capacity instead of its cup number.

Pan size Batter it takes Good for
6 cups (1.4 L) Check the pan's own bakeable capacity (see below). Half recipes, small households.
10 cups (2.4 L) About 6 cups (1.4 L), per King Arthur. A recipe written for a 9 x 13 pan or two 9-inch layers. Bake about 30% longer, says King Arthur.
12 cups (2.8 L) About 7 1/4 cups (1.7 L), per King Arthur. The common size. Nordic Ware says to fill its Original and Anniversary pans no more than 3/4 full.
15 cups (3.5 L) Larger than the other sizes. Not measured by King Arthur. Big cakes for a crowd. Check that your recipe fills it.

Not sure what your old pan holds? Fill it with water one cup at a time, right to the rim. King Arthur suggests a second measure: fill it again to 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 inches below the rim. That second number is how much batter it can take.

Nordic Ware Anniversary Bundt pan in silver cast aluminum with side handles

Biggest pan, America's Test Kitchen's pick

Nordic Ware Anniversary Bundt Pan, 15-Cup

Good for: big holiday cakes and recipes written for 15 cups.

Why it is here: America's Test Kitchen named the Anniversary its winner after baking a yellow cake and monkey bread in each pan and hand washing each ten times. It has the same cast aluminum and coating claims as our quick pick, plus handles.

The drawback: at 15 cups it is the largest pan on this list, so check that your recipe fills it. Hand wash only, 400°F (204°C).

Truly uncoated Bundt pans: cast iron and glass

If you want nothing between the batter and the pan except grease, cast iron and glass are the two options we found at a sensible price.

Cast iron

Lodge makes a seasoned cast iron fluted cake pan. On its California disclosure page, Lodge says its seasoned cast iron is made with just iron and oil. The page lists iron, phosphorus, manganese compounds and strontium, with soybean-oil seasoning shown as a non-candidate chemical. Lodge's listings say to hand wash it, and that it is oven safe but not for the stovetop.

The weight is the catch. Lodge's listing puts it at about 9.5 pounds (4.3 kg) empty, so a full pan is a two-hand lift. Our cast iron care guide covers washing and re-oiling.

Lodge black seasoned cast iron fluted cake pan with two loop handles

No synthetic coating

Lodge Seasoned Cast Iron Fluted Cake Pan

Good for: cast iron fans who already know how to keep a pan seasoned.

Why it is here: it is the only metal pan here with no synthetic coating, per Lodge, and Lodge's listings say it is made in the USA.

The drawback: it is the heaviest and most expensive pan on this list, and Lodge's care advice is to hand wash, dry and oil it.

See the Lodge pan on Amazon

Glass

Glass has no coating, and you can watch the crust brown through the side. Retailer listings describe the SIMAX pan as borosilicate glass made in Europe, resistant to heat and cold shock. We could not find a SIMAX page for this pan, so that is as far as we can go. A trade article quotes SIMAX as advising against sudden temperature changes.

Size is the other limit. The listing gives 2.1 quarts (8.4 cups), well under a 12-cup pan.

SIMAX clear borosilicate glass fluted Bundt pan

No coating, see-through

SIMAX Clear Glass Fluted Bundt Pan

Good for: small cakes, puddings and anyone who wants to skip coatings entirely.

Why it is here: borosilicate glass with no coating, per retailer listings, and clear sides.

The drawback: the listing gives 8.4 cups, smaller than a 12-cup pan, and when we checked the seller was a third party rather than Amazon.

See the SIMAX glass pan on Amazon

Ceramic and stoneware Bundt pans exist too. The ones we found on Amazon were either expensive or had too few reviews to recommend, so we left them off.

Silicone vs metal Bundt pans

Silicone Bundt molds are flexible, which helps with release, but the reports we found on baking in them are not kind. America's Test Kitchen's silicone bakeware test had a floppy muffin pan that needed a sheet pan under it, which slowed cooking and held back browning. That was a muffin pan, not a Bundt pan. Milk Street found cakes baked in silicone rose higher and flatter, with softer, stickier surfaces than the crisp edges from metal, and The Takeout quotes baker Jerelle Guy saying silicone Bundt pans conduct heat less evenly and are hard to brown.

If you want silicone anyway, put the mold on a sheet pan before you fill it. Our look at whether silicone is safe for cooking covers what to check.

Bundt pan vs tube pan vs regular cake pan

A Bundt pan is a fluted, one-piece pan with a hollow center. A plain tube pan, often sold as an angel food pan, has simple sides and usually comes in two pieces. Tasting Table says you can bake most Bundt recipes in a tube pan, though the capacity may be larger and a pan with removable parts can leak. The reverse is the problem for angel food. Tasting Table advises against nonstick pans for it and says a Bundt pan lacks the flat bottom the cake needs, and Rachael Ray's recipe page calls for an ungreased aluminum tube pan.

Our bakeware sets guide shows which pans come in the common sets.

Mini and small Bundt pans

Mini Bundt pans bake a tray of single-serving cakes, which makes them good for parties and gifts. The whole pan holds far less than a full-size Bundt, so a full recipe will make more batter than the pan can take. Check the recipe's yield first.

Nordic Ware twilight blue mini Bundt pan with twelve small fluted cavities

Mini cakes

Nordic Ware Formed Mini Bundt Pan, 12 Cavity

Good for: party trays, gifts and kids who want their own cake.

Why it is here: twelve 2.5-inch (6 cm) cavities in lighter formed aluminum. The listing gives the whole pan's capacity as 3 3/8 cups and says it is made in the USA.

The drawback: it is formed aluminum, not cast like the full-size pans, and the listing doesn't name the nonstick. Hand wash only, with a 400°F (204°C) limit.

See the mini Bundt pan on Amazon

If you want one smaller full-shape cake instead, the Novery above is listed at 6 cups.

What to look for, and what to avoid

Weight and detail. Nordic Ware's listings say cast aluminum gives the most crisp, intricate cake detail. A cast pan also weighs more, which matters when you flip it.

Two golden Bundt cakes on white plates side by side, the left with deep sharp ridges and the right with shallower rounded ridges

Sharp ridges (left) and softer ones (right). Nordic Ware credits cast aluminum for crisp detail.

Handles. The Anniversary has side handles, and Wilton's page lists extended handles on its pan. Either gives your oven mitts something to hold.

A light finish. King Arthur Baking says very dark pans, black or close to it, bake faster and can burn the crust. Its fix is to lower the oven by 25°F (about 14°C) and start checking about 10 minutes early. Lighter grays don't need it.

An oven limit you can live with. The listings and makers we read cap their pans at 400 to 450°F (204 to 230°C). Check yours before you use it for anything beyond cake.

Care rules you will follow. Nordic Ware says to keep its Bundts out of the dishwasher. Wilton allows it but recommends hand washing.

Gentle tools. Nordic Ware recommends silicone spatulas and nylon or wooden utensils, and no metal utensils or scouring pads on its nonstick surfaces. USA Pan also says to avoid sharp metal tools.

Once the cake is out, let it cool on a rack so the bottom doesn't steam. Our baking and cooling rack picks cover racks wide enough for a 10-inch cake. For more on choosing bakeware by material, see our bakeware buying guide.

Bundt pan questions

Is it bunt or Bundt?

Bundt, with a d. Nordic Ware says the name was coined and trademarked by its co-founder, Dave Dalquist, for the company's fluted ring cake pan, which it has made since the 1950s. Most people still say it like bunt.

Are Nordic Ware Bundt pans non-toxic?

Here is what Nordic Ware states, so you can judge for yourself. Its Bundt FAQ says the pans are cast aluminum with a silicone-based nonstick made without PFAS, and the Original and Anniversary Amazon listings say "made without PFAS and PTFE." On the company's California disclosure list, the Anniversary pan shows aluminum and the Original 12-cup shows no listed chemicals. PFAS does not appear anywhere on that list (we checked on November 1, 2026). For how to read these filings, see our guide to cookware chemical disclosures.

Is Nordic Ware or Wilton better for Bundt cakes?

They are different pans. Nordic Ware's classic Bundts are cast aluminum, the company names its coating as silicone-based, and it says to keep the pans out of the dishwasher. The Wilton is steel, with a nonstick that Wilton says is made without PFAS but does not name, and Wilton allows the dishwasher while recommending hand washing. We have not baked in either, so this is a comparison of what the makers say, and the Wilton costs far less.

How do you grease and flour a Bundt pan?

Nordic Ware's own advice: use a baking spray that contains flour, or brush on a thin layer of solid vegetable shortening or softened butter and dust it lightly with flour. For dark cakes like chocolate, it suggests cocoa instead of flour. It advises against regular cooking spray, which it says leaves a sticky residue.

What is the best pan for pound cake?

A fluted tube or Bundt pan is the usual choice for pound cake, and Wilton and USA Pan both describe their pans that way. A loaf pan also works: Better Baker Club suggests splitting the batter between two and adjusting the time. Our loaf pan guide covers those.

Can you bake angel food cake in a Bundt pan?

Most sources say no. Tasting Table advises against nonstick pans for angel food and says a Bundt pan lacks the flat bottom the cake needs, and Rachael Ray's recipe page calls for an ungreased aluminum tube pan. Keep the Bundt pan for butter cakes.

What can I use instead of a Bundt pan?

Better Baker Club suggests a tube or angel food pan, a springform pan with a greased, parchment-wrapped clean can standing in the middle, or two loaf pans with the batter split between them. A tube pan may hold more than a Bundt pan, according to Tasting Table, and the bake time changes with any swap.

Do Bundt pans come with lids?

Some do. Amazon lists a Nordic Ware Formed Original Bundt that comes with a keeper, a cover for the cake. The listings for the cast pans on this page don't mention a lid, so a cake dome or a large container does the job.

The verdict

Buy the Nordic Ware Original 12-cup if you want one Bundt pan to keep. It is cast aluminum in the common 12-cup size, and Nordic Ware tells you what the coating is. If you bake for a crowd, the Anniversary 15-cup is America's Test Kitchen's pick. If you want no coating at all, the Lodge cast iron pan is the sturdy option and the SIMAX glass pan is the light one.
